During Doors Open Day 2008 guided tours around the now closed Govanhill Baths were provided by members of Govanhill Baths Community Trust.

The baths closed amid local controversy in 2001, since when there has been a campaign to reopen the facility for use by the local community.

The historic building was built in 1914 just before the start of The First World War and provided essential washing facilities for clothes and personal hygiene in an era when industrial Glasgow's working population were unlikely to have any such luxury in their tenement homes. This kind of facllity was well used in cities throughout Britain well into the 1970's, though mostly leisure use prevailed towards the end. Govanhill Baths closed after more modern swimming pools opened elsewhere in Glasgow, but none are easily accessible to the local population.
