At one time, throughout the UK and other parts of the world, Clydesdale horses provided the industrial might to move all kinds of goods in all kinds of industries, and to power many varieties of machinery in farming and other ventures - a work horse favoured for its immense strength and wonderfully friendly and docile nature. Before the internal combustion engine there would have been countless thousands of horses like these ones throughout Britain, though they would unlikely have the idilic existance of these particular healthy animals. These horses are lovingly cared for by Glasgow City Council at its depot at Glasgow Green, and provide a much needed link to an age when technology was less advanced, and life much harder. Now a breed of horse that has no substantial working task to perform it is perhaps endangered, except that there are many enthusiastic breeders and admirers who are willing to support and maintain its existance. Today Ben, Don & Jack's main task is to provide entertaining trap rides for children and adults at numerous local events and occasions, as illustrated here at Easter 2008. |
