Over the weekend of 10th to 13th April Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive held a marketing event to promote The Glasgow Subway system - the ‘Glasgow Subway Festival’. Unusual sights and events took place within the underground system to entertain travellers, turning parts of the system into a successful family day out. Dancers, DJ's, musicians, stylists, performers and varied entertainers all provided a mixed bag of amusement for those prepared to travel among the participating stations.

Glasgow's subway system itself is small, but perfectly formed. At only 10.5km long it takes about 25 minutes to travel right round its more or less circular route, stopping at each station, and providing a convenient method of travel within the city. There are trains running in each direction on the twin tracks.

Built in 1896 (operated by steam engines and cable traction) and electrified in 1935 it's one of the oldest subway systems in the world and is a local icon.
